The controlled profile is that part of the tooth flank for which tolerance requirements are specified and which may be uesd in contact with mating flank.
Due to the design of the measuring machine, the start and end values (SCP and ECP) of the roll distance are usually given, i.e. the correspondence of the radial dimensions along a tangent to the base circle.
