This makes the chuck lighter than steel chucks, resulting in lower inertia during high spindle acceleration. The resin also has a positive dampening effect to prevent component ringing during hard turning operations. Six angled steel plates, which are cast in resin, form the chuck taper. To match this arrangement, the clamping head also has six flat outer surfaces that mate exactly with the surfaces of the chuck.
